
The battle broke out on January 20 when ISIS terrorists attacked Geweran prison in the southern part of al-Hasakah city.
The terrorists, who initially intended to free their comrades, ended up occupying the prison and several nearby areas.
By January 23, the battle in al-Hasakah city has claimed the lives of 84 ISIS terrorists, seven civilians and 45 personnel of the SDF and its security forces.
The battle also displaced thousands of civilians who took refuge in the government-held “security zone” in al-Hasakah’s center as well as the northern district of the city.
ISIS terrorists are now besieged by the SDF, whose forces have been receiving direct support from the US-led coalition. The battle will likely end soon.
Turkish forces took advantage of ISIS attack on Geweran prison and steeped up their operations against the SDF in northeastern Syria.
On January 25th, SDF forces failed to neutralize the militants, following several assault attempts.
ISIS fighters still control several prison facilities and residential quarters in the area.
Forces of the U.S.-led coalition, including the US Air Force and the British Air Force, with heavy weapons and aircraft are also deployed to support the SDF. However, this is still not enough to suppress the militants.
Late on January 25th, ISIS fighters reportedly went for the breakthrough.Fierce clashes were reported.
The clashes are covered by the local media. ISIS is also sharing the footage from the area within its propaganda campaign.
According to local reports, the SDF made a deal with the jihadists and exchanged several hostages for food. However, the fate of the prisoners is still unknown.
On January 24, ISIS terrorists attacked a military column of the 4th corps of the SAA near the town of Palmyra. 8 soldiers were killed in the attack and 16 others were wounded.
Meanwhile, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) are transferring forces to the Homs desert.
On January 23, the VKS deployed a flight of MiG-29 fighters and 3 Mi-8 helicopters to the T-4 airbase between Palmyra and Homs.
The aircraft will patrol the Palmyra – Abu Kemal and Palmyra – Deir Ezzor roads, where the SAA and its allies are targeted on a regular basis.
