Firing indiscriminately against civilians is unacceptable – premeditated Ramadan offensive

Since Saturday night, about 430 launches have been identified toward Israeli territory. The Iron Dome intercepted more than 100 rockets.

A 58-year-old Ashkelon resident and father of four, was the man killed on Saturday night after being critically wounded at approximately 2:30 a.m. following a rocket attack which hit a building in the Ashkelon area. He suffered shrapnel wounds in his stomach and chest and was taken to Barzilai hospital, where doctors pronounced his death.

This appeared to be the first Israeli fatality from Gazan rocket attacks since 2014’s war with terrorists based in the Strip.

Security footage released Saturday showed the moment a rocket hit the southern city of Kiryat Gat, seriously injuring an 80-year-old woman.  The woman can be seen trying to hurry for shelter toward a bus stop as the siren begins to wail, but is knocked to the floor by the blast when the rocket lands just meters away from her. She was treated by medics at the scene and taken to the hospital with severe head injuries as well as shrapnel wounds.

One of the rockets landed in a high school, igniting a fire. The other hit a family home.

Be’er Sheva, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Kiryat Malachi, and Yavne have ordered public bomb shelters to be opened, and the Home Front Command has ordered Gaza-area communities, as well as some in central Israel, to cancel school on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said on Sunday morning that during the night, IDF warplanes attacked some 60 terrorist targets. By early morning 200 terrorist targets were attacked. In addition, a number of naval vessels belonging to the terrorist organizations throughout the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military also flattened a building housing the offices of the Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency, prompting outcries of condemnation from Ankara. The IDF said the eight-story building was used by the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups to conduct terrorist activities.

The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says ten Palestinians have been killed since Friday, the day before the current flareup with Israel began.

Three of the fatalities are identified as operatives of the Hamas terror group and three others as members of Islamic Jihad, according to Israel’s Channel 13.

The toll includes a pregnant mother, her 14-month-old infant and her unborn child. Israel has said those deaths were the result of a failed rocket launch by Gaza terror groups, not an IDF strike.
