‘Genocide does not sell well’

Israel has lost the psychological and public relations war against the Palestinians over the past 15 months simply because it was carrying out a genocide.

Genocide does not sell well, war crimes do not sell well.

And when your prime minister is accused by the International Criminal Court of war crimes, and when your country is accused by the International Court of Justice – de facto indicted on genocide – it’s very hard to sell that to notably Western public opinion, and certainly international public opinion that is concerned by human rights.

That Israel has certainly lost.

However, over the past few days, the idea that Hamas could come out of the ashes so well organised, and be able to come up with those captives from the debris of Jabalia and Khan Younis – presenting themselves as still an able party – certainly puts a wrench in Israel’s argument that this whole genocidal war was meant to defeat Hamas and release the captives by force.
