IDF to incorporate Israel Dog Unit in disaster response

The Israel Dog Unit (IDU), a nonprofit specializing in search and rescue, met this week with senior officials from the IDF Home Front Command to demonstrate a variety of emergency response capabilities and further the organization’s inclusion in Israel’s disaster response systems.

  • Israel Dog Unit director Yekutiel Ben-Yaakov met with Lt. Col. Yakir Bokubeza, commander of the Home Front Command and Professions School, Major Menachem Friedman, from the Technology Information Center in the Home Front Command, and the, commander of the elite Alon disaster response unit.

IDU volunteers and their dogs demonstrated locating missing people inside collapsed buildings, among other response capabilities.

A spokesperson for the IDU commented “We are proud to contribute our parts to the national response system and cooperate whenever necessary.”
