The Israel Dog Unit (IDU), a nonprofit specializing in search and rescue, reports that one of its most senior veterans has passed away.
Aisha, a Malinois search dog credited with saving several missing persons throughout Israel, died yesterday at the age of 14.
- According to the IDU, Aisha was involved in the rescue of Daniel Berenson during a rocket attack in Ashkelon and a teenager from Beit Shemesh on Purim Eve.
An IDU statement says that after retiring from search and rescue, Aisha spent her last years protecting Dr Ben Troya and his family in the Avraham Avinu neighborhood of Hebron, and fought off terrorists who tried to infiltrate the area on at least one occasion.
