K2 Winter: First Winter K2 Summit – Mingma G. Journal

When we reached the traverse above the Bottleneck, we met all the team members there.

Mingma Tenzi was leading the way and Dawa Tenzing+Sona were belaying him behind.

Everyone was carrying 100m rope and the team who left earlier had almost finished all their rope.

We were already climbing above the traverse and we still got 400m rope with us which was more than enough to reach the Summit.

When we reached the small plateau 200m below the Summit, we had a tea party and we left 100m rope there because it was not necessary.

Everyone took rest there for a while and then again Mingma Tenzi started fixing ahead.

From there to the Summit, we took almost 4 hours.

We all were together in a queue following Mingma Tenzing, Dawa Tenzing and Sona.

Our plan was to stop 10m ahead of the Summit and move together towards the Summit.

When we reached near the Summit, we were all together and Mingma Tenzing put the final anchor making my ice tool the last anchor.

Then we all went close to him and made a line in row.

We all started moving together and our 360 GoPro was on.

The line was too long so some members moved back making two rows.

Everyone in the team felt equally treated, the unity in the team was of the next level.

We were already close to Summit and we were all emotionally attached with this historical success.

So there was no question who stays ahead and who stays behind.

We then started moving towards the Summit singing the National Anthem. It was my third time summiting on K2 but this time it was connected with the pride of the nation and we were emotionally attached. It was a thrilling moment. I had tears in my eyes and my body was shaking itself, bearing goosebumps.

No member in the team can explain the moment we had there.

This video from the K2 Summit will always make me proud.
