Syrian Army Enters Northern City of Manbij, previously Controlled by Kurds. They are waiting for American personnel to complete their redeployment of the region before announcing the city under their control.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and Damascus over the weekend agreed on the deployment of Syrian Army units along the border with Turkey.
Manbij is in the Aleppo province, but has been under ISIS control for more than two years. Located only 25 miles south of the Turkish border, Manbij was a strategic centre for ISIS where it has established a route to smuggle weapons, assets and foreign fighters from Europe and Asia.
Since 2018, upon agreement with SDF, Syrian Arab Army was deployed on the city’s periphery as a buffer between Turkish occupation of Northern Syria and Syrian Democratic Forces.
