In a statement, Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesman for the Houthis, said that the facility was targeted with six suicide drones during the operation that was named the “6th of Sha’ban” after the eight month of the Islamic calendar.

Brig. Gen. Sari said that the operation was successful, without providing further details.

A day earlier, Houthi fighters launched a drone attack at Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia.

“The General Command of the [Yemeni] Armed Forces affirms that its operations will continue and escalate as long as the aggression and siege are still ongoing,” the spokesman said.

The Saudi Ministry of Energy confirmed that an oil refinery near Riyadh was struck by several drones. A fire erupted as a result of the attack. However, there were no human losses.

“The Kingdom asserts that such acts of terrorism and sabotage, repeatedly committed against vital installations and civilian facilities, do not target the Kingdom alone, but more broadly the security and stability of energy supply to the world, as well as the global economy,” a spokesman for the ministry said in a statement.

• Operation 6th of Sha’ban is the most recent in a series of large attacks launched by the Houthis on high-value targets in Saudi Arabia this year.
• On February 28, the Houthis carried out Operation Deterrent Balance 5 which targeted several military positions in Riyadh as well as in the Kingdom’s southern cities of Abha and Khamis Mushait.
• On March 7, the Yemeni group carried out Operation Deterrent Balance 6 which targeted the oil port of Ras Tanura on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia along with positions in the southern provinces of ‘Asir and Jizan.

The Houthis’ recent operations are meant to deter Saudi Arabia, which appears to be determined to go on with its war on Yemen.
