A South Korean military aircraft has evacuated 97 of its citizens and family members from Lebanon, the country’s Foreign Ministry has said.
The KC-330 aircraft departed from Beirut on Friday afternoon and will arrive at a military airfield in the South Korean capital, Seoul, on Saturday.
South Korea is the latest country to charter flights to evacuate its citizens as Israeli attacks on Lebanon escalate.
Other evacuations include:
- Brazil has sent an Air Force Airbus A330 for its 3,000 nationals in Lebanon who are seeking to leave. The plane will do two flights a week.
- Japan dispatched two C-2 military transport aircraft on Thursday to evacuate 40 to 50 Japanese citizens living in Lebanon.
- The Netherlands has sent a military plane to repatriate nationals via two flights on Friday and Saturday, with the flights also accommodating people from other countries if there’s room.
- The UK has chartered flights for citizens to leave Lebanon, with more than 150 British nationals and dependants leaving Beirut on a government-chartered flight on Wednesday.
- Spain sent two military planes to carry out evacuation flights as it repatriated between 400-500 nationals in Lebanon this week.
