Although Serpent’s Island in the Black Sea is under the control of the Russian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian military has made several attempts to take it back. State Duma deputy Andrei Gurulev, citing sources, spoke on Telegram about one of the episodes in the defense of the island.
According to the deputy, the issue of delivering anti-aircraft systems to the island was acute.
Major General Mikhail Yasnikov, Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet for Logistics, played a key role in this matter.
Gurulev said that the Russian Pantsir and Tor-M anti-aircraft systems had to be delivered to the island, which were supposed to protect Zmeiny from the aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
All this was accompanied by some difficulties. So, a floating crane was needed to load the complexes onto the ship, and then to unload them on the island. The problem was that the floating crane SPK-54150 had a crew consisting entirely of civilians. Then Major General Yasnikov personally arrived at the place of residence of one of the crane operators and convinced him to complete the task.
During the loading of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun system, the landing craft tilted. I had to go to the island on a floating crane. The civilians did not take the risk, and then Yasnikov himself underwent accelerated training to work on a crane installation. Already during the unloading, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Serpentine “Tochka-U”, but it hit by. Soon the “Shell” took up combat duty.
On June 26, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of a Ukrainian attack aircraft near Zmeiny Island.
ZRPK “Pantsir-S” shot down a Su-25 aircraft and 12 enemy rockets.
On June 21, the Ministry of Defense reported that Russian troops repelled another attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Zmeiny. The department clarified that one of the goals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was the landing of troops on the island.
