Update – Original publication 08.25): Russian President Vladimir Putin has postponed his scheduled February 12 visit to Turkey and, by extension, his meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The real reasons are not the elections in Turkey and Russia, but the discomfort in the Kremlin from the announcement just before the visit, of Baykar’s UAV factory in Ukraine.
- “There will be no Turkish drone manufacturing plant in Ukraine. We will destroy it before it starts producing lethal systems for the Ukrainian armed forces,” sources from Moscow tell pronews.gr.
It is noted that Turkish-made Bayraktar drones dominate the Western bloc and Baykar has signed export agreements for its TB2 drone with 30 countries.
- “Our factory in Ukraine is being completed. We need about 12 months to complete the construction and then we will continue by placing machinery, equipment and organizational structure ,” said Baykar CEO Haluk Bayraktar on the sidelines of the World Defense Expo in Riyadh.
Unfortunately, the good news for the Greek side ends here, because the program has not changed regarding the visit of RT Erdogan and the formal restoration of relations with Cairo.
The Turkish president will visit Egypt on February 14. It will be his first visit to Egypt since 2013.
Unfortunately, this means substantial acceptance by Egypt of the Turkish-Libyan Memorandum on the EEZs of the two countries, which “cripples” a potential Greek EEZ, but also “boils” the current continental shelf east of Rhodes, Karpathos and Crete.
