The sole survivor of the Israeli military’s execution of 15 Palestinian medics says he survived by throwing himself to the floor of the ambulance in a recent BBC report.
Munther, a volunteer medic, said the ambulance was clearly marked with “everything telling you it’s an ambulance that belongs to the Palestinian Red Crescent” in response to Israel’s claims that the vehicle aroused suspicion.
Footage aired during the report shows the moment Israeli forces opened fire on paramedics as they treated a wounded woman. A voice can be heard saying: “Another one shot. Another one shot.”
- Fifteen humanitarian workers, including eight paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society, went missing on 23 March after responding to a distress call from civilians being attacked by Israeli forces.
The bodies were found last weekend in a mass grave. Each had been shot around 20 times, according to Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defence in Gaza. At least one had their legs bound, another was decapitated and a third was found topless, he added.
