US President Joe Biden has presented what he says is a new Israeli ceasefire proposal to end the war on Gaza. He said the proposal has been sent by Qatar to Hamas for their response.

Biden announcement of ceasefire proposal prevents Netanyahu ‘manoeuvring again’

“This declaration and these kinds of details that we have heard clearly show that Israel and the United States of America are both admitting the failure of the Israeli war on Gaza. In the sense that it has failed in achieving all its goals,” Barghouti said.

• “It has failed in imposing ethnic cleansing on Palestinian people in Gaza. It has failed to eradicate the Palestinian resistance. It has failed to bring back Israeli prisoners without an exchange deal – and that by itself will have a very big impact on Netanyahu and his future in the long run,” Barghouti told Al Jazeera.

• “Finally, the most important thing is to make sure that Netanyahu does not play games again. The fact that Biden decided to declare by himself these points – and clearly he wouldn’t have done so if he didn’t receive Israeli approval – is his way of besieging Netanyahu and preventing him from manoeuvring again,” he added.
