Activist Thiago Avila sent a message from The Freedom Flotilla, as the Madleen approaches closer to Gaza.

He stressed the importance of continued momentum in the “march to freedom”, praising the “collectivity and solidarity” of the “billions of people in this world that abominates what’s happening in Palestine”.

This comes after Greta Thunberg, who is also aboard the flotilla bound for Gaza, told Middle East Eye that while governments had failed Palestinians, it fell “on us to step up and be the adults in the room”.

The ship operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition set off from Sicily to the Gaza Strip on Sunday, carrying “symbolic” aid to break the Israeli siege on the Palestinian enclave.

• Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham, and Franco-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan are among the 12-person crew of the Madleen.
