Shortly after the speech of the chairman of Yesh Atid, MK Yair Lapid, […] Monday, a senior member of the ultra-Orthodox factions said that the speech revealed Lapid’s advanced negotiations with the chairman of the right, MK Naftali Bennett.
According to the senior official, Bennett is expected to wait until Netanyahu succeeds in the work of forming the government, then he is expected to sign with Yair Lapid and become a rotating prime minister.
“This is another step towards the end of Benjamin Netanyahu’s rule, another step towards the opposition benches,” the ultra-Orthodox official said.
Earlier, for the first time since the election, Lapid spoke: “A test of leaders is to make difficult decisions in the face of a complex reality. I suggested to Bennett that we form a unity government together and he be the first in rotation. This is what the state needs now. action”.
It should be noted that the ultra-Orthodox factions have made it clear that they will not agree to sit in the government alongside Yair Lapid, certainly not under his leadership. This morning, President Reuven Rivlin addressed Shas MKs: “I can ask a few more questions, but I understand that I will get the same answer – that you support Netanyahu,” the faction’s chairman, MK Michael Malkieli, replied:
“Indeed. It is our commitment to the voters in all the recent election campaigns and we will clean it up.”
